Toters Rolling Wild
Can Downtown Stamford lose the “high school cafeteria” look we are rocking with the giant toter bins everywhere? They seemed to have replaced the old decorative garbage cans. For the last year or so they’ve been popping up all over the parks as well to similar effect.
There is no sense of permanence to the toters, creating a rather cheap and undignified look. On a more practical level, the toters can pose hazards to pedestrians and drivers. The cans are light enough to be easily tipped, dumping trash and blocking the sidewalk and streets.
I’m sure the reasoning is they are cheaper & easier for the city. And that’s precisely how they look. Class it up a little CTW.

They put a lot of toters out just before the UBS parade. My guess was that they are temporary.
Lose (as in "I'm losing my mind because no one knows how to spell lose anymore!") is spelled with one o, loose (as in "she's a loose woman") is spelled with 2. I'm not being nasty, I just thought you would like to know.
I love how people get really angry about spelling and completely miss the point of a good blog posting! No one is perfect.
I adore my toter, and just today, saw that several of my neighbors have the big recycler bin... I NEED THAT! I've had a love affair with the Toter as soon as I got it 2.5 years ago and was able to dispose of my old bin by putting it INSIDE the Toter. That was an amazing trash day.
Yes they are sort of impermanent, but that way they can easily be replaced if they do weather poorly...
ST - I meant only in the context of using them in public space - downtown streets & parks. I have no issue using them residentially.
In any case, I see them disappearing. Either Silli was right, or someone up top is reading the blog.
