In & Out

A new bar/ restaurant Butterfield8 on Bedford is now open. Anyone checked it out?

Down restaurant row, Mary Ann's Mexican and Barcelona are both chugging along on construction and look ready to open soon.

The Bon Jovi brother club slated for the Turtle's old spot has a name - 84 Park. Nothing further so far about that.

Uncle Dai's, a solid Chinese joint on Atlantic is under renovations.

Also Houlihan's bit the dust already after 6 months of paying no rent. That space, along with the adjacent, soon to vacate, Trump Parc Sales Center under Target open up some interesting possibilities. Combing the spaces could offer a decent footprint for a natural/ organic supermarket the downtown has been pining for. A really can't see another chain restaurant ready to jump in and follow a failure like that.

With what I heard from people who went there, Holuhan's killed themselves with bad serves and burned burgers. No surprise.
Butterfield 8 is very elegant inside and are trying to make it as a restaurant, not a bar. We all know where that goes in this town. Itis a very nice bar and should remain so - that is a pre-opening view.
Mary Ann's was suppose to open before Barcelona, bit Barcelona scheduled their final pre-opening inspection for next we. If they are not really ready, as they have not been on the previous 2 inspections, they will have to wait a bit after they are ready to open.

We went last night - not my scene, but who cares - it was GREAT to see so many people hanging out on Bedford. When we left at midnight there was a line down the block to get in.

Nobody knows what to wear at a new bar. Men's choices ranged from pop collars and Kangol hats to t-shirts and IT tool belts. Women's choices ranged from pole dancer pullaway coverpus to frump-a-lump business casual.

ionie, the Bedford scene was nice. I always like to hang there in the Summer. Favorite place is across the street and of course its name escapes me. Duh!

I'm guessing the word you're looking for is Capriccio. It's cool and all but one restaurant, a scene does not make. We need more! More, I say, more!!! *insert evil laughter*

Re: Uncle Dai's on Atlantic; there was an article in the Advocate a few weeks ago stating that they were retiring due to high rent increases??

Re: Houlihans..I agree that no matter if Trump is occupied or not, that resto was not a "fit" there....another "Napa" type venue (and that's unlikely) would hit the spot, so to speak...imo anyways

Probably the best deli on Glenbrook Road - Sammy's deli on Glenbrook road may be closing. the landlord has increase the rent from 6k to 9k. Sammy cannot pay this.
