Survival of the Fittest.
Interesting bit from the Downtown Stamford Blog, Zody will be “changing” before Valentine’s Day. New concept, new owner, not sure exactly what that means.
Zody never did it for me so I'm curious what it will become.

Went to Zody a couple of times. It was okay, and the owner was good to the customers (if not so good to his staff). Perhaps we'll try to hit it one last time for nostalgia's sake.
Speaking of closing restaurants, the Cookhouse up in Darien is closed for "Winter Break" and claim they will reopen on May 1. I don't recall them having a "Winter Break" in previous years...
Zody and the nearby Spider cafe are the only two places in Stamford I have attempted to avoid. Not sure why but perhaps it's because I couldn't quite work out what they each represented - was it a bar? was it a restaurant? (if it was it a restaurant - what type of food it served- no idea).
Most places you can tell at a glance what it will be like inside, these two I couldn't work out so being the coward I am, resisted opening the front door.....
Zody was a restaurant that other people in a party of 6 or so I went with were pleased. My plate was over ambitious, to full of Rosemary and so not appetizing. I did not go back. I never would have thought of it as a bar. Spider, I always thought of as a Spanish bar and so never went in.
And this is your tip of the week (Yes I know I have been very wrong before, but my source is undisputed). The building that currently houses the shell that was Twenty of Stamford (look for more news on that soon on my blog), was won in a court battle by the Kitsios group for about 3 million. This building is now up for sale (the way he does business, not openly) as an office building with restaurant space underneath. Any Comments BlogStamford?
ut on, did Gordon Ramsey get ahold of Zody too? ;)
Whitemist - are you saying Twenty is no more?
Twenty exists and is still called Twenty, but the diner owners have basically said to hell with their partner and let him run music on Fridays and Saturdays. The food is worse than Bull's head, the night life approaches a teenybopper haven with a young aggressive crowd. there is no place for a regular bar person even..so it will be dead soon. I believe Scott's contract is over in April or May and the old man is trying to sell the entire building.
As add info on Restaurant changes: The lousy Chinese buffet is going to be replaced by Mary Ann's Mexican. Apparently they have a place in Port Chester and Chelsie New York.
MaryAnne's is not a bad spot at all. Great guac and mojitos, assuming they follow the lead of the one in TriBeCa.
I hear Barcelona opening will be opening soon? Now that is going to be a popular spot...
Always enjoyed Zody's. Good food not overpriced. Congenial owner greets everyone. Relocating to Brennan Golf club 19th hole.
at least the Spider cafe is stll open. once a year myself and about 15 friends from Stamford, Greenwich and the city get together on valentines day for some drinks at Spider followed by dinner at Curleys. someone mentioned that there is an ATM and that there is now a new fixed price menu after 10pm which makes it even more an exciting prospect.
