Stopped the Presses

I noticed “environmental clean-up” has begun at the former Stamford Advocate building at the corner of Washington & Tresser. That’s usually the precursor to teardown/ redevelopment. The site was recently purchased by a Norwalk developer after the paper relocated. Any rumors on what the plans are?

It will be low-medium rise housing. The Norwalk developer (Summit) is selling the property to Stamford developers Seth Weinstein and Paxton Kinol (Mill River House, Eastside Commons, Glenview House).

If that’s the case that would be very interesting. I would have thought office tower with that location but maybe the market is getting saturated with office space in Metro Green, Gateway, and Harbor Point going in all around it.

Do you know if it’s all housing or is it mixed use? It would be a real missed opportunity if it wasn’t mixed use in some way. I’m a fan of their latest 4 projects in Stamford that you listed and they are all a great fit for the downtown collar. They have really left a mark so far on the East & Wide Sides with little of the controversy that usual follows any development in Stamford. This spot though would probably be better suited to something a little larger than their typical 4-5 story projects but smaller than some of the more aggressive development around it (Tresser Square, Ritz Carlton). I’m interest to see what they come back with.

It's envisioned to be 4 or 5 stories but with a more modern, less Avalon-like design than their other projects.

Pretty sure it includes some ground-floor retail or other mixed-use stuff.
