The Tangled Web of CT Politics

Dan Malloy has a post up on his blog about speaking with Obama at the US Conference of Mayors and noted that the presumptive nominee gave Stamford a specific shout out as "a shining example of a community that works and leads the nation in best practices". Rock!

Here are some fun facts. Malloy supported Hillary in the primary who in turn (albeit begrudgingly) had supported Ned Lamont in his successful primary challenge again Joe Lieberman two years ago. Both Malloy & Obama backed Lieberman in that race who after winning the general for his senate re-election turned and now supports Barrack's opponent Joe McCain. Despite Clintons former support Ned Lamont recently supported Obama's bid over Hillary's for primary. Got that. I think someone needs to chart that out.

Heh! I just read that same post and commented (God, is the mayor really gonna read my comment?), asking what Obama was referring to when he called a city a shining beacon of what-have-you. I wasn't asking snootily; I really am curious what Obama was talking about.

I'll just end with (scream this) GOOOOOOOOO OBAMA!!!

not sure but here are some guesses:

Smart Growth - Harbor Pt, Development close to train
Transit - Urban Transitway, Ferry & Trolly planning
Energy - I think we recycle our waste into pelts to burn for energy, Cool & Green plan
Affordable Housing Developments - 10% rule, 1 for 1 replacement of the projects

Email him. I emailed him in the past and got responses.

    Point of information -

Malloy campaigned with Lamont after the primary victory and made appearances with him in Stamford leading up to the November election. His level of enthusiasm can be debated, but he was at least a moderate friend to the Lamont team during the general election.

As a correction, we are working to convert our waste into energy pellets. That is an on going project that is in the testing stages - not happening yet, BUT that is a lot further than most communities. The affordable housing rule does have holes in it and then again, we are not talking low end affordable, we are talking middle to high end affordable. no one making under $50,000 is going to be able to afford to purchase anything in Stamford.
Not to knock the development cause we need it badly, but just remember who we are targeting.

Agree with anon earlier. Like most pols, Malloy played it safe and backed Lieberman in the primary. When Lamont won though, Malloy did the right thing and supported Lamont as the Democratic nominee. As did Obama, albeit passively.

With Lieberman now fully converted to Republicanism and following McCain off the cliff, those few brave pols who backed Lamont early are looking smarter than ever.
