Shit That Stamford Needs - Nightlife Edition

Ok, when StamfordTalk gets down on the city we are in trouble. I've considered this post for a while, please help build on it. We have a number of great resteraunts and a number of bars that all basically the same. Time to kick it up a notch Stamford, help the kids remember why we are paying so much to live here.

Here's my first pass:

Medium Size Music Venue - a la Toad's Place where national acts can play.
Comedy Club - Again, something that can attract some national acts.
Bowling Alley - something more swanky along the lines of a Bowlmor.
Food Joints that stay open past bar close
Coffee Shops that stay open beyond 9-5

All of those would be good! I do remember that even Port Chester had a place for some large acts, but not Stamford. And we had a comedy club once, which didn't make it. And the two diners that stay open all night also don't really make it (oh yeah, they're open, but really, this is not eating). And any real coffee shop - not Starbucks - that has tried to stay open has not made it. We just don't seem to yet have the mentality to support such a thing.

I concur, but this can be said of most of lower Fairfield County, which had all of the first three items as recent as 10 years ago. Is there anywhere to bowl around here outside of Norwalk these days?

Stamford needs a male stripper venue called Banana Hammocks.

    Tranny clubs. Drag shows.

A Beard Papa's cream puff store. (those things are the SHIT, yo)

Another Stamford blogger beats me to a post idea!! Are you guys all psychic?? Mayor Malloy must be too, because I thought of light rail before he did!

    My wish list:

First (and I hate to beat a dead horse): truly affordable housing.

Second, another dead horse: a sports/concert arena.

I agree 1000% with the call for a bowling alley. I'd love to see a New Roc City-style entertainment complex here (minus the wannabe teen gangsters).

In the entertainment vein: a REAL movie theater, meaning one run by AMC. I HATE the Bow-Tox theaters. I only go to the AMC in Port Chester nowadays.

At least one fun ethnic neighborhood like Chinatown or Little Italy.

A destination museum or art gallery like the Dia in Beacon, NY.

Whitemist mentioned it, and yes, we need more non-chain coffee shops. Sundance (next to HSBC on Broad Street) is nice.

Finally, a replica of Jim Halpert's Stamford office! If Philly can have a Rocky statue, I want my Dunder Mifflin branch!!

The lack of music kills me. Jason Jones plays Sunday at Twenty (OK freaking 930pm on Sunday? What the hell kind of night for open mic jazz is that??!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??! Can we at least do 8pm?) and Monster B's may have some stuff. Other than that where are non-cover bands? Hellllllp me!

I like the comedy and jazz club idea. The Rich Forum or SCA or whatever that place is, the Palace, has some events but they cost at least 40 bucks.

JT you are right, we've got to stop complaining and do something... I read a story in a paper that shall not be named about a guy in Norwalk who has music events at his house. Perhaps we'll have to resort to that?

Or, we could see if Monster B's is open to comedy... he has booked good music so far.
