Live @ Five Open Thread

The Live @ Five opener was a shit show this year, and I say that in a good way. That had to be the biggest crowd they ever had. I wonder if the event has outgrown the little Columbus Park square (or triangle).

Blues Travller put on a good show, with a full set. I seem to remember other closign acts last year topping off at 45 minutes. I watched half from a bar and half from a roof, so I wasn't down mixing up with the people much. Anyone have any good stories?

It was sooooo crowded, but it was a very cool, varied crowd. Did ya see my yellow nails from the roof?

Now... how is a "shit show" a good thing?

Someone else said that it has outgrown Columbus Park and suggested moving it to Mill River, but that's pretty little too, right? And we don't want kids falling in the water. Sure, we could move it.... but it's sponsored by Stamford Downtown Special Services District, so it will probably have to be kept down there for obvious reasons.

Maybe they could make the stage higher? Is that the dumbest idea ever? But it would let ppl see the band without having to gather so close to the stage.

They could also make the speakers reach farther away so you didn't have to see the band to hear it. (Because you can NOT hear well unless you are right up close.) You can't even really hear the band past Summer St.; maybe they can move some speakers down there.

I put pics up on my flickr site. Fun, fun.

the Mill River Park will have a "great lawn" as some point on the east side of the river. I think the idea is to have the fountain convert to a stage for outdoor concerts. That would still downtown and still close to all the columbus park places. Mill River Park is years off being ready for that though.

It will be several years before Mill River Park will have the great lawn - they haven't even started construction and it is a major major undertaking. I agree that the DSSD isn't likely to go for that, given the whole point of A@5 is to bring customers for all the downtown bars and restaurants.
Meanwhile, how about reversing the layout and putting the stage over near the bottom of Summer St? And yes - make it higher.

I recall at the Hootie and the Blowfish concert 2 years ago, they had additional speakers around the Summer St. intersection, and they used the whole block down to Atlantic St. for the concert.

They do need to work on the layout of the ID check tents or have more of them to keep them from causing such long lines and crowding. But I have the feeling the crowds won't be as big for the acts appearing the next few weeks.

The huge tree in front of the stage does not help, either! Shall we chop it down?

The 20-50 people who come for the actual concert can make their way in front of the tree an watch. The rest of the crowd wouldn't know the difference if any of the bands left and plugged an ipod into an amp.

    JT!!! You are so negative!!!!
    :)
I want to see the concert, but not necessarily that close. With all the little kids and people sitting in chairs, there needs to be more room for people to spread out and still be able to see.

Move the shows to the Hole in the Ground next to the mall. Could stuff a lot of bodies in that pit.

    AHUC! That sounds disgusting!

The idea of completely shutting oof lower Summer and Atlantic St is appealing - of course the construction fences at the old Town hall don't help much. I actually also think that no restaurant/club whatever can handle the number of people that show and putting it in Vets park might help spread things out a bit.
