The City That Builds: The Luxe
With all the more high profile construction in Stamford, here’s one you may not have been aware of. “The Luxe” is planned for the empty lot cornered in by the AT&T building on Greyrock & Main. If you can’t picture that, this is the long, lonely corridor along the east side of the Town Center Mall. You can read ADK Architects describe their design on their site. (Go to Projects- Greyrock Corner & click T in the photo line-up. The site’s flash design is a pain in the ass for linking)
I like the project, it brings residential, office, and commercial space to a dead nook downtown. I read in the Advocate awhile back that the residential space incorporates mostly smaller studio units, which brings welcome variety to the mostly two-three bedroom units under construction in the surrounding area. While, I’m sure Starbucks is nothing more than a placeholder for the commercial space in the drawing, I’m sure it’s probably a safe bet that’s what would go in there. You can insert your own lame humor about another Starbucks. I won’t stoop to such clichés.

Wow. It looks fantastic! It reminds me of some of the cool new buildings going up in Manhattan lately. However, I'll be surprised if they actually do keep the apartments reasonably sized/priced.
Is it going to fill that entire hole? That's a large lot of land. I think it's great as well. I used to live at the Biltmore (pre-condo) and always loved that little street by the church & firehouse.
You're thinking of the "hole in the ground" Amanda. This is the other side of the block. The hole is another beast altogether. I've heard two things about that spot. 1. It has an underground river running thru that causes some building issues. 2. The Owners don't intend to sell until Stamford develops further and they can make some insane $$$ on it.
Aw, thank goodness it's not the hole in the ground! I have an odd affection for that site. It's been in its current state as far back as I can remember, and there must have been 4 or 5 proposals for it that made headlines in their day and then came to nothing. It's a monument to corporate folly and a cautionary tale for every developer. I say we put up a sign and call it a tourist attraction.
Ahhh ok. "THE HOLE". I have a feeling that's going to be empty for many years to come.
The good news is that it'll make The Hole look like even more of an eyesore. The bad news is that the landowners clearly don't give a damn.
When will construction start on this project?
Where can I find more details about the project?
