I saw the notice too, I'm dying to know...what's the REAL story?
Ah, man! I kept telling myself to go eat at Dunn's Loft but kept forgetting. They burned bright and fast. I'll pour some steak sauce on Summer Street in DL's memory.
It's a shame...great place that can never be replaced.
I think you guys saw the posts from Dunn himself and his plea...there just aren't enough people to work the restaurants downtown. The city has made it harder with the parking meter time increase and I don't think Dunn really had it in his heart to fight it out anymore in Stamford. The other portion was he could not sell it and part of the problem may have been the HD's. he had asked for an inspection and approval of his upstairs dining area and they wouldn't go. So like Sabetello's, the place had to have the same registered name (he could call it anything he wanted from the inside, but legally it would have to be the same). So he lost some points for buyers. He also stopped serving lunch during the winter and felt he couldn't compete with what was going on. By the way, did you know that a new Italian restaurant is opening up on Washington Blvd behind Curley's?
I saw the work being down on that. What's the word?
Another Italian restaurant?
I thought they rolled the parking time back to 6:00...
And where are they opening a new restaurant behind Curley's? In the parking lot??
the location is 1033 Washington(???) and they took an old unused building and converted it. It is where you can enter Target and the parking garage from Washington Blvd. So far we think it will be opened in the next 3 weeks, cause everything is being done the way they said it would be (unlike the mall chains). The persons are known Italians in the area and they claim to have an excellent chef. They have run successful restaurants in the past in Stamford, Norwalk etc. They are looking to take a piece of the pie from Columbus park tratoria specifically. They have interesting connections that one can only speculate about so they may be successful. I know that Ferrante's does not seem to be getting much business, and so is not a competitor. Emmy of Capri seems to be doing better than Ferrante's and of course I'l Falco will close soon. The Barcelona people will take over Zinc for about a year and then will shut down and receive payment during the tear down and reconstruction of that part of Summer St. Sweet deal!
Joey...are you serious about Barcelona? If that's true - what a freaking buzzkill.
confirmed by people at the mariot who will "own" the lease, a bartender at the Barcelona in Greenwich who said the lease was signed and the main restaurant person for the Stamford HD.
I saw the new restaurant yesterday. It's called Aria. It's in a distant spot with no foot traffic, so unless they get some great word-of-mouth, I I'm not sure how well they'll do.
As for the Summer Street teardown situation, I hope they at keep its character at least somewhat. I don't want it to look like the east side of Atlantic Street, the dead zone across from Uncle Dai's.
