Bat-Bum Where Art Thou

The complaint from half my readers (that being my friend Adam) is that I don’t have enough variety in my posts. I’m accused of just putting up picture of buildings. So I haven’t landed the interview with Bat-Bum yet. I’m sorry that a guy in a women’s overcoat and make-shift Nordic headdress intimidates me. Besides, he lays low in the winter, making only the occasional appearance at Target. When the weather is nice and he’s lurking around Capriccios outside seating I’ll make my move on the exclusive.

Until then, here’s what Seaboard Properties redevelopment plans for 11 Forest St. look like: (the old Children’s Furniture Store next to Sabatiello’s off Bedford St.)

The Bat-Bum guy? Is that the guy who's always standing in front of McDonald's? The one with the weird crown-looking hat and the woman's purse?

I would love to know that guy's story. Watch out Blog Stamford....Herbietown might get the scoop on you!

Keep it up. Your blog is great.

I recently saw a man dressed as Uncle Sam walking on Summer Street. He was a tall thin black man and did not appear to be doing it as a dare.

I think the best tactic with batman is many some extended observation before approaching. That way you'll get a sense of whether he talks to people or just wants to be left alone.

Hahaha....bat bum! I just call him "Ears"! He's such a harmless crazy. I love his banana clip ears & rose skirt. I think that would be the single greatest blog entry ever.

ps - I have actually never seen him speak to anyone other than himself and his sometimes girlfriend.

The Uncle Sam dude is from the Insurance Place across from Twenty down in Columbus Park. The hand out flyers in Uncle Sam garb.

    And Bat-Bum has a girlfriend?!

I'd love to find out his story as well. Although I personally don't like the Bat-Bum name for him. Not sure if it's true or not, but a friend of mine told me he has money? Whether homeless or not, one thing for sure is he's got a few screws loose.

He used to have another female crazy we'd see him from time to time with...aka his girlfriend :) Haven't seen her for a while though.

BTW, loving the pic. He really does bring a smile to your face, doesn't he??

    I have to points

    1. Someone said that Bat-Bum has money. Well considering that Bruce Wayne had money and still fought crime for the simple folk. It would make sense that Bat-Bum is wealthy and living in the Avon

    2. If Bat-Bum has a girlfriend, well I guess he must have money. We all know how women work.

If I am not mistaken, the gentleman in question lives at Liberation House, and if not he is probably a client of some kind. I often see him coming and going from the building.

I suspect I am older than most of you posting here. I have softened considerably in my dotage, notably since becoming a parent. I look at people like the gentleman you are deriding and think "He is someone's baby."

I enjoy parts of your blog, but can't feel good about referring to anyone as a bum, nor about poking fun at someone who is clearly having a rough go at this life despite his fantastic costumes.

If you are interested, the Advocate recently ran a feature about a man who volunteers with Liberation House clients and includes them in community beautification and cleanup projects.
